The Arts at Green Button Farm
A Summer Camp
Green Button Farm is truly where the wild things grow, and we are excited to be able to share that experience with your children this summer. Our “The Arts at Green Button Farm” day camp is designed to provide a creative experience on our farm whether it be in our home art studio while exploring many different tools and mediums or in our home demo styled kitchen testing recipes and learning the tricks of the trade. The farm also provides the perfect backdrop for exploring nature, learning about animals, and playing as only children know how. We will have the luxury of tailoring our day around the interests of our campers and the happenings on the farm.
Session I & II: Farm & Art Camp
Farm/Art camp is a great mix of the outdoors and visual arts. A day might begin with hands deep in clay or experimenting with various painting techniques. A break for gathering eggs or feeding pigs will provide us the opportunity to get moving and create fun memories. We will return to our art projects after lunch, but the week will also provide opportunities for pond fishing or kayaking, hiking, games, horse petting, water activities (not to forget all the fun we will have making 2D and 3D art pieces). Each session will have a variety of different art lessons and projects so that the art loving child can enjoy all sessions or just one!
Session III: Culinary Camp
Our culinary camp is a dream of Green Button Farm and Picnic Durham owner Ryan Butler. The genesis of this camp are lazy Sunday mornings with Ryan and Finn our youngest making biscuits and simple breakfast foods. Ryan loves to share his passion for cooking and local food with everyone. It is not unusual to find a whole hog on our kitchen counters surrounded by friends, young and old. Seeing the passion that our kids have developed for food, we wanted to provide our community’s children with the same experience of being a farm/restaurant kid. Our kids have been walking the floors of Durham’s finest kitchens for years and we want other kids to meet and learn from the excellent culinary talent in our neighborhoods.
Our campers will spend the week learning about sustainable agriculture, local foods, culinary techniques, food safety, menu planning and how to clean up after themselves. But don’t think this is a stuffy cooking class. Plenty of time will be allotted for roaming the farm, caring for animals, bee keeping, fishing, playing and time in our art studio.
GBF Culinary Camp is the week of July 17th-21st. 9am-2:30. The cost is $350 per camper. Campers will come home with dinner 5 nights this week, saving you from cooking!
